An armed robber by the name of David Janiszewski, age 24, tried to rob a local corner store with an air gun only to be beaten up by 19 year old Jordan Athernought after being shot in the face.
When Athernought realized that it wasn’t a real gun, he had fought back, picking up an energy drink from the floor and attacking the criminal. He had left Janiszewski with bruises, cuts, and even two black eyes.
“Janiszewski arrived at the Vicarage Road Stores dressed in dark clothes and wearing gloves and a scarf over his face” says prosecutor Kevin Jones. “He produced a gun at the lone worker, shouting “I will shoot you, I will shoot you.”’
After the confrontation Janiszewski had fled from the scene, but was later found hiding inside a closet of a nearby home.
“The guy shot Jordan in the face and obviously he was a bit taken aback by that, but then he picked up the can of energy drink and hit him with it. It was a fight or flight response from Jordan – and obviously he chose fight. He must have smacked him right in the middle of the nose because the police said the guy was left with two black eyes. It’s not what I would have told Jordan to do, but he showed tremendous bravery and it’s worked out nicely.” says 42 year old shop manager, Gurminder Tatlah.
Janiszewski has since admitted to his crimes of attempted robbery, possessing a firearm, and causing bodily harm. Judge Peter Heywood has sentenced him to 4 years in prison.
